We have a proffesional groundsman at Theydon Bois. We pay him a set fee (during the summer) each week and he is responsible just for the wicket. During the off season we pay him when work needs doing. The outfield / hedges are managed are managed by 2 club members (inc myself) which also includes maintainace of the football pitch during the winter.

We pay a father and son team. They're club members, but we run this along proper business lines. However, it's indisputable that they contribute far more to the club than they receive back in payment.

We have all most a profesional grounds man with the benefit of not paying him,
If your on the league commitee your now him , Fred Farow, he spends allmost everyday at our ground at High Beach and the benefit of that shows in the quality of the wicket. He only takes expences for petrol and alike for going to the ground and i now that sometime he dos'nt even do that.As most clubs will now it comes down to the willing volunters and there's never enough of them, its may well be worth other clubs if there not aware of it that soil supplier Binders of Moreton are a good point of referance for wicket preperation , they will give you advice and also a video of how to go about things. Its worth showing that to < how shall i put it the more laid back members of clubs just to let them now what goes into creating a wicket to play on,

I am just interested to know how many teams have got a "professional" groundsman, by this i mean some one they pay or someone who just devotes their time to it. I am interested just for the fact that when teams start moaning about the state of the wicket, i am wondering whether most of them know the first thing about how to prepare a wicket and the amount of work that goes into it. This isn't a moan at any of the clubs in our league, i'm just interested
