View Full Version : Website Banter/Letting the site down
Once again I would emphasis that all postings on the site are visible to anyone with internet access. As I stated in the posting on the front page "Letting the site down" postings are often misinterpreted. As such, offense is often taken rather than given. I'm sure tros' explanation and apology for any offense taken is also well meant and I think we should all accept it in the good faith with which it has been offered.
We all have friendly grudge fixtures within our clubs and I'm sure it will always be that way. In fact I would suggest the league would be worse without them.
I have considered the circumstance causing this debate and have decided that should I consider any further postings likely to be inflammatory I will return them with the option to reconsider the wording or content. This will only apply to the posting of match reports. The forum will remain unmoderated and we will all have to rely on each others courtesy and tact when posting.

I must confess I read the match report and didn't detect the light-hearted banter that was apparently intended. The danger is misinterpretation, which goes back to the point I made about legal ramifications. Banter is of course part of the game, but in-jokes don't work on a public website - and if it ever gets personal, it only requires one person to take exception for real problems to start.
In response to the comments by Andywebster, as requested, i have decided to open a forum about them. Firstly, as a player at Hockerill we are very proud to have won the Davies Cup and see it as a massive achievement, as any small club would. The reason the match reports have been written on this website is because we are part of this league, have been since the formation of the leagues and want to share our success with the teams who play a similar standard. As for the match report for august 7th's game, it was all lighthearted. The history between the two clubs goes back a long way and although it may not seem the case in the report, we have the utmost respect for that club, i have even played for them in the past!!
As we all know, on-pitch banter makes cricket the great game we all love to play and sometimes the chat can go too far but we all learn to cope, my comments in the said report have been misinterpreted by some individuals who don't know the history between the two clubs and for this i apologise. I dont see this behaviour as "letting the site down". Every post should be taken lightheartedly and with a smile on ones face, if we all looked at things with the same amount of seriousness as you did andywebster then we could all be in big trouble! (that was a lighthearted joke). :-) All i will say is that banter and chat is a big part of this game and mental strength is what separates good players and great players, everyone likes to get involved in one way or another and as i said before it contributes to making cricket the best game in the world!
Regards

I agree, the match report was over the top and i am the guilty party. I openly apologise to Much Hadham about that for any offence caused and i wish them the best of luck in remaining in div2 this year. It would be sad to see a well established side like them relegated and i know the problems they have been having. Again, i apologise for such comments and will endeavour to work on my diplomacy skills. :-D

Wasn't there a problem like this last season with match reports on a team's website? I can see both points of view, and i myself thought that the match report was a little bit over the top, but without knowing the history of the fixture, nobody except Much Hadham really knows if it is a problem or not. If several members of Much Hadham came on here and complained, then i think Andy Webster may have a point, but if they don't i can't see where this is going.

I just sneaked out from my sensitve shell to say thanks for acknowledging that your report might have upset someone but I understand in the buzz of defeating Much Hadham in Div2 of the Herts and Essex League sponsored by the Herts and Essex Cricket Centre as featured on 5 live your loss of control was a momentary lapse and understandably reasonable. :-P
