View Full Version : Play-Cricket
Put a link to the site here and I'll take a look to see if I can help. Play Crickets web scripts that deal with the stats and such are notoriously flaky at times and with the number of club sites they serve the tech support is pretty thin. Thats the main reason that this site is run on small scripts that are well supported or I write them myself.
A couple of things but not much help I'm afraid.
The scripts on Pay-Cricket.com run on ASP. I'm only really familiar with PHP.
Their help pages are returning errors so tat option is unavailable to you.
Ive applied to set up a test site there but it will take up to two days for the registration to become active :-O
To investigate further you would have to set up another admin account on your website. If you do don't publish the details here but email them. I'd be happy to look into it.
I have found a few threads in other forums supporting what I said earlier see this (http://community.channel4.com/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/821609267/m/5830075891)
I'd be happy to advise on other software that you can use to track and publish results and stats but that would mean building your own site. In the long run it would be more reliable, but the learning curve can be slow if you have no website experience.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
From memory it's about £25 pa to use the stats system which as has been pointed out can be a bit flaky.
Sadly they don't tell you the cost until you register and try to setup your site. That alone can take a while. I'm still waiting for them to activate the test site I asked them to setup for me. I don't much like the format. Every club page looks the same and you get adds on your site. However a lot of clubs use it and it's an option for those that don't have time to build their own site.
EDIT - Rogan_Josh, Thanks you beat me to it ;-) Have you sorted your problems with them yet??
Well, After waiting since the 10th of this month the application to build a site on playcricket for the league has been rejected. I shall find out why!!! :-x

At South Loughton we use play-cricket.com because Premier League clubs and those like ourselves who are involved in ECB cricket development projects are required to: it's the medium by which information is conveyed from our lords and masters. The basic package is free and we get pretty regular traffic through it, both club members and guests. It's particularly useful as a means of communication if you can get club members to register: we've got about 55 members registered and so it's easy to get information out to them quickly. It's also streamlined management committee work because we can deal with issues as they arise by group email. We're considering buying the add-on stats package for £25, though the recent problems suffered by the site have given us second thoughts. I agree with Paul, it's a relatively limited set-up and can be a bit flaky, especially on Monday mornings when everyone's trying to upload information, but it's free – and until a club member steps forward and says he'll build us another site, we'll continue using it.

I see by looking on the teams websites on the left hand side, that a few use Hitscricket as well. We use it at ASP and find it very good, much easier to use than Play-cricket and perhaps a bit more personable. To me play-cricket(as has been said before) just looks the same for whatever club uses it, whereas Hitscricket, even though the template is the same for all clubs there is so much more you can do, just take a look at Radlett's site(www.radlettcc.com) and look how much info there is on there!! Admittedly the website costs more than Play-cricket(£75 a year, and you can choose your own domain name) but we have found that life is now so much easier and have picked up a few players thru it as well, although most of them don't seem to be able to play this weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Are any other clubs on here using Play-Cricket.com?? If so is anybody having troubles with the site. I am having major problems in the sense that none of the stats are appearing and some stats are appearing in the wrong places etc.
I have e-mailed the site to get their advice but as of yet have had no reply. I would greatly appreciate it if anybody could help me as my fellow club members are giving me evil looks for the scruffieness of the web-site!!!
Thanks

www.elsenham.play-cricket.com
The main problem is that some stats are appearing and some are not, and the other main problem is that a game we played 2 weeks ago is appearing in the '2003' section for some reason. I can't for the love of it figure out how to solve it!!!!

I think that Play Cricket is free unless you want to subscribe to any of the packages that are offered, we subscribe to the 'Statistics' package which I think cost £25 per year. Generally Play Cricket has proven to be useful to our club as we can display all of our statistics etc. However is takes time to learn how to use and can be a bit fiddily to sort everything out.
But overall I think that is is deffinetly worth it!
Hope that was helpful!

Yes thanks it is now all sorted and running smoothly!! In the end it was a 'programming' error on their behalf, but they have since apologised for the inconvenience and as I said the web-site is now running smoothly!
