Chadwell Heath I vs High Beach
Chadwell Heath 297-8, High Beach 75 all out
The wheels fell off for High Beach in spectacular fashion in their away encounter at Chadwell Heath.
A weakened team, with only 10 men, opted to field first on a very green pitch offering tennis ball bounce. However the opening bowlers were unable to make an early breakthrough and Chadwell Heath?s first two batsmen were able to click through the gears as they put on a century opening stand.
The Beach were indebted to change bowlers Adam Robertson and particularly Danny Fowler to drag them back into the match . Fowler who bowled cerebrally as he adapted to the conditions, picked up three wickets to dismiss Chadwell?s Heath?s top order, returning figures of 3-53.
However with a dozen overs remaining and with wickets in hand Chadwell Heath pressed the accelerator pedal and dramatically increased their run rate. For the Beach bowlers it was a similar experience to standing on the fast lane of the motorway.
During this onslaught Robin Bear was able to keep his head and continued to bowl straight and picked up season best figures of 4-70.
Eventually Chadwell Heath finished on 297 with three of their batsmen hitting half centuries.
In reality the Beach knew that the victory target was probably out of range but that they hoped to get as close as possible.
It was not to be, first to go was Barckley Sumner (6) who feathered a catch to the wicketkeeper. Then there were a procession of batsmen, as the Beach?s much vaunted engine room turned out to be less of a Ferrari and more of a jalopy.
None of the batsmen came to terms with the wicket and the valued quality of application was in short supply. To demonstrate how bad the performance was Mickey Evans top scored with 13 and only one other batsman reached double figures.
After such a car crash of a performance, there will need to be a major rebuilding exercise or the Beach will be heading to the scrap yard.
