View Full Version : Are two balls better than one?
How can we take a thread title like that seriously?? Still as Bob, will know its better than two owls. Private joke sorry!!!
Seriously though if the clubs asked for a new ball for each innings it has to be good. Ultimately the league has to respond to the wishes of the majority of the clubs in the league. The issue of lost balls is the same whether one or two balls are lost. Its a problem that is not likely to go away soon.
Sadly, me too!! and we have a large ground :-(
I think there are a lot of aspects of this debate that are also being discussed IN THIS THREAD (http://www.hecl.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=PNphpBB2&file=index&action=viewtopic&topic=83&forum=3&start=0). Although not entirely the same debate the main points still apply.
Jelski, It will be debated at the meeting if it is proposed and secounded by another club. It has been debated at at least the last two AGM's. 8-)

i think its hard to tell yet from our experience so far. This is due to playing at matching green the ball went in the pond quite early and the 2nd new ball was lost inside 15 overs on sat!!! I think in the long run it will be a good thing as it will make for a fairer game of cricket. It was noticable our fast bowler was bending his back a bit more than usual after tea on sat!!

i think it has made a big difference this year. Its has helped us a lot as our skipper cant win a toss and we usually bat 1st :-D. Bowling 2nd with the new ball means its usually harder to get away to a good start as the ball will "do" a bit but its also good for the side batting 2nd as the balls hasnt gone too soft towards the end of the innings either. It has made for much better games of cricket and i would say that its the way forward for all divisions
I know we're only two weeks into the new season but after talking about it for several years, I'm curious to know how the division 1 clubs / players feel a new ball for each innings has affected the matches so far. Your comments please.

I'm the skipper of Ashdon in the 4th divison (also the website designer and maintenance man so check it out please!) and from experience as a bowler,I would rather bowl with a new ball as I have found especially this year the ball tends to move around a lot more early on than when it gets a bit tired.
But to be honest i don't think any of us profess to be budding/ex England stars, I honestly don't think it would make a big a difference as people think. The clubs would just have to fork out more at the start of the season, I don't see the need personally.
