In the gap between the end of the football season and summer holidays really affecting availability, we at South Loughton are running a 3rd XI on Saturdays. We decided not to enter Div 6 because we were not confident about fulfilling fixtures for an entire season, particularly in early May and late August.

Are there any other clubs in a similar situation that might be interested in forming a separate division? I imagine this having eight to ten teams with everyone playing each other once from the first week in June to the first week in August, allocation of homes and aways being dependent on ground availability. This would enable a club running two XIs but with only one ground to consider entering on the basis that most (if not all) their games would be played away.

It could be called a 'Development division', and would not have promotion to Div 6. However, it could act as a stepping stone for clubs wanting to add an extra XI and build up towards possible admission to the main league structure.

It could also encourage clubs currently not playing league cricket to give it a try, thus potentially bringing more clubs into the league.

This obviously hasn't gone before the league committee but it would be interesting to see what others think.
